Ceuta converts equestrian center to migrant camp amid seismic evacuations in Granada
In Ceuta, authorities have begun converting the Ceuta Equestrian Center into a temporary migrant reception camp. Following an announcement by the Ministry of Migration, excavators were deployed to prepare the equestrian arena for the installation of tents and modular units. This move is part of an effort to provide housing for thousands of migrants currently living on the streets after a massive influx of people. The equestrian center is one of four locations designated to expand capacity by 1,500 places.
Separately, in the Granada metropolitan area, the municipality of Las Gabias has ordered the preventive evacuation of five buildings in the Conquistadores de Gabia Grande neighborhood. The evacuation affects approximately 100 homes due to structural damage, including cracks in pillars, caused by recent seismic activity. The local government has established the Municipal Theater as temporary accommodation for displaced residents. Nearby municipalities, including Armilla and Gójar, are also managing the aftermath of recent tremors, with Gójar being the epicenter of a 4.9 magnitude earthquake.
