Ceuta hospital reports bacterial meningitis case in 26-year-old

A 26-year-old man has been declared brain dead after contracting bacterial meningitis at the Hospital Universitario de Ceuta. The patient had visited the emergency department twice over a single weekend, initially being treated for suspected intoxication because medical staff lacked a unified clinical history due to the patient's lack of identification.

Following the diagnosis, healthcare professionals at the hospital have undergone preventive treatment and prophylaxis to mitigate the risk of infection. Dr. Enrique Roviralta has criticized the current medical protocols regarding undocumented migrants, noting that the inability to maintain a single, unique medical record for patients without identification can lead to diagnostic delays and compromised care.
