Ceuta sports community navigates local migration crisis

The autonomous city of Ceuta is navigating a complex intersection of professional sports and a significant migration crisis. Following a massive influx of migrants in late July, the city has faced unprecedented social pressure, with thousands of people residing in temporary camps. This situation has begun to impact the daily operations of local sports, including AD Ceuta, where training sessions have been observed by large groups of migrants and local traffic has been affected by the movement of people.

In the sporting arena, AD Ceuta has struggled to maintain momentum in the LaLiga HyperMotion division, recently securing its first victory after seven matches. The club's coach, José Juan Romero, has become a vocal figure regarding the city's social challenges. Amidst these tensions, gestures of solidarity have emerged, such as Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay presenting gifts to the local club to foster cordiality.

Additionally, the local sports community continues to develop through diverse initiatives, including the fourth season of Walking Football Ceuta, a program designed for seniors and those with physical limitations to remain active through a modified version of the game.
