Ceuta Mayor Refutes Claims Migrants Have Left City
EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner and other officials claimed that at least 42,000 migrants had already departed the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The mayor of Ceuta publicly rejected those figures, stating that around 60,000 illegal migrants remain in the city and that the situation is still critical. Video footage shared by German journalist Oliver Flesch shows groups of young men roaming the streets, and images of a local citizen militia using weapons to keep migrants away from residential areas.
The mayor also disputed media reports that the death toll had reached 67, saying the alleged drownings were implausible. He criticized the Spanish government, linking the unrest to policies of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. International outlets continue to report conflicting numbers, while the mayor insists the migrant presence is ongoing.
