Ceuta migrant barrier damaged by strong Levante winds
Strong Levante winds have damaged the temporary floating buoy barrier at the Tarajal border in Ceuta. Several sections of the approximately 500-meter pneumatic barrier have detached and sunk, reducing the protective measures to levels seen during previous mass migration events in late July.
The damage occurs amid heightened security concerns, as social media calls for a potential mass migration attempt on September 23. In response, Spanish authorities have reinforced surveillance in Ceuta and Melilla by deploying three additional platoons of the Guardia Civil's Reserve and Security Groups (GRS). Intelligence services from both Spain and Morocco are monitoring the situation to assess the threat level.
Separately, meteorological reports from Aemet indicate that the Levante winds will persist throughout the week in the Campo de Gibraltar and the Strait. Maritime warnings remain in effect, with yellow alerts issued for coastal waters due to the ongoing wind episode.
