Ceuta: Spanish National Police begin clearing El Trampolín migrant settlement
Spanish National Police have launched a phased operation to dismantle the El Trampolín migrant settlement on a beach in Ceuta. The deployment, which includes over 30 police vans, drones, and armored vehicles such as BMR and VAMTAC units, aims to clear the area and restore normality to the city.
Authorities estimate that between 3,000 and 3,500 migrants have been living in the makeshift camp. The clearance is being conducted in stages due to limited accommodation capacity in the city. Displaced individuals are being transferred to the Tarajal Temporary Attention Center (CATE) for identification and health screenings. Some migrants have been offered the option of voluntary repatriation to Morocco.
The operation follows several recent incidents in the territory, including a knife attack involving two migrant minors and health warnings regarding high levels of bacterial contamination in the waters near the settlement. The city continues to face significant pressure on public services, housing, and emergency resources amid the ongoing migration crisis.
