Ceuta: Spanish police dismantle migrant camp on Playa del Trampolín

Spanish National Police have launched ‘Operation Trampolin’ to dismantle a large, improvised migrant camp on Playa del Trampolín in the North African enclave of Ceuta. The operation, which involved over 350 officers, armored vehicles, drones, and maritime support, aims to address public health risks caused by microbiological contamination in the area and to manage the ongoing migration crisis.

Approximately 3,000 migrants had been living in makeshift shelters on the beach for nearly two months following a massive influx of over 72,000 people from Morocco in late July. While many have since returned to Morocco, authorities estimate at least 10,000 migrants remain in the enclave, placing significant pressure on local resources.

During the evacuation, hundreds of migrants chose to return to Morocco voluntarily to avoid the formal identification and registration processes at the Tarajal border. Others are being transported by bus to the CATE reception center for medical assessments and data registration. The operation is being conducted in phases, ahead of a scheduled visit by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to Ceuta on October 13-14.
