Ceuta migration crisis and US Open quarterfinal updates
Mehdi Hijaouy, the former number two of Morocco’s external intelligence service (DGED), has questioned how Moroccan security leadership could have been unaware of the massive influx of migrants into Ceuta in late July. His comments, published in the French publication Le Canard enchaîné, challenge the notion that high-ranking officials were uninformed about the border situation.
In response to the crisis, the Spanish government is scheduled to declassify approximately 40 documents regarding the migration events in Ceuta that occurred between July 1 and August 1. These documents, which include reports and communications between various departments, will be made available on the Moncloa website following a commitment by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
In sports news, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton are engaged in a highly competitive US Open quarterfinal match. After losing the first set, Alcaraz has mounted a comeback, winning the second and third sets to force the match into a fifth set.
