Ceuta migration crisis described as humanitarian disaster by Bishop Valdivia

Ramón Valdivia, the Apostolic Administrator of Ceuta and Cádiz, has addressed the recent large-scale migratory crisis in Ceuta, characterizing the situation as a "humanitarian and institutional drama." Valdivia noted that the influx of over 70,000 people and the resulting fatalities constitute a "humanitarian disaster" driven by ambition and corruption.

Valdivia highlighted the solidarity of Ceuta's residents, praising their maturity and calm during a period of high tension and fear. He commended the local parishes and the San Antonio center for their immediate humanitarian response, noting that church collections were redirected to meet the urgent needs of those arriving.

In his reflections, Valdivia criticized the political instrumentalization of migrants, stating that many individuals are used for political purposes or driven by malicious promises. He specifically expressed concern for minors, whom he described as being made "cannon fodder for predators" due to abandonment or exploitation. He called for peace, justice, and a focus on human dignity over ideological or political interests.
