Ceuta: Spanish police evict 500 migrants from last major settlements

Spanish National Police conducted a large-scale operation in Ceuta on Sunday, deploying over 350 agents to dismantle the city's last major migrant settlements. The operation targeted several peripheral areas, including Los Rosales, Tarajal, Poblado de Regulares, and the vicinity of the CETI center.

Authorities reported that approximately 500 migrants were evicted, including about 200 minors. The displaced individuals were transferred to the Temporary Attention Center for Foreigners (CATE) for identification and processing. Following the procedure, 143 migrants chose to return voluntarily to Morocco.

During the transfers, an incident occurred on one of the buses when a passenger used pepper spray inside the vehicle. Police evacuated the bus and redistributed passengers to other vehicles; no personal injuries were reported, and an investigation is underway. David de la Encina, the government representative in Ceuta, described the coordinated action as an “exemplary action” and noted that similar operations may be repeated weekly to clear remaining street settlements.
