Ceuta removes six tons of waste following desalination plant eviction

Authorities in Ceuta have removed six tons of waste and belongings following a police operation to evict migrant settlements near the city's critical desalination plant. The cleanup, led by the Ministry of Environment, Urban Services and Housing, aimed to restore sanitary conditions around the essential water supply infrastructure.

While the area immediately adjacent to the plant and its sea walls has been cleared, reports indicate that settlements persist in other coastal areas such as Benítez, El Trampolín, and El Guano. To prevent future occupations, the city plans to install perimeter fencing around the desalination facility.

Separately, environmental associations Daubma and CECAM have filed a legal complaint regarding water pollution. The groups allege that wastewater containing soaps and personal care products from showers at the old Guano factory site is being discharged directly into the sea, creating dark stains on the shoreline.
