Ceuta residents hold vigil ahead of major demonstrations

In Ceuta, residents gathered in the Plaza de África for a candlelit vigil ahead of a major demonstration marking the city's anniversary. Participants used the slogan “Ceuta awakens, Ceuta is reborn” to call for unity and light.

The event highlighted local tensions regarding identity and immigration. While some emphasize the coexistence of Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu cultures, others expressed concerns over demographic changes and the perceived threat to the city's traditional character. Protesters utilized the slogan “Ceuta is not for sale, Ceuta is defended” during the gathering.

Juan Vivas, the president of the autonomous city, attended the event and met with local residents. The atmosphere in the city reflects a sense of anxiety among some citizens regarding the potential loss of territorial control or cultural identity.
