Ceuta residents protest against government and local delegate

Protests have erupted in Ceuta as residents demonstrate against the Spanish government and the local Government Delegate, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano. Demonstrators marched from Plaza de África to Plaza de los Reyes, chanting slogans such as “Delegado mentiroso” (Lying Delegate) and calling for his resignation or imprisonment.

The unrest follows the declassification of reports by Moncloa and heightened tensions regarding public security. Protesters cited recent incidents, including car fires, forest fires, and injuries to soldiers, arguing that the city is being “invaded.”

The demonstrations also respond to controversial remarks by Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, who characterized the insecurity felt by the population in Ceuta as “subjetiva” (subjective). Critics argue this description contradicts judicial findings from the Audiencia Nacional, which suggest that mass irregular immigration has had an evident impact on public security, border control, and the functioning of public services.
