Ceuta security breach: illegal immigrant attack sparks police response

Spain's interior minister Fernando Grande‑Marlaska claimed that normality had been restored in Ceuta within 24 hours, but a violent incident unfolded that night. An illegal Moroccan immigrant attempted to break into a residence in the Virgen de África district of Ceuta armed with a knife. Neighbours intervened, forcing the assailant to flee, and a police chase spread through several streets before the National Police captured him.

The disturbance was not isolated. In the nearby La Colina neighbourhood another illegal immigrant reportedly entered a home while occupants were present, and a number of people forced their way into the IES Abyla school in the same district. Local residents are demanding greater institutional support to locate and repatriate illegal immigrants circulating in the area. The episode adds to broader political commentary about Spain's strained relations with Morocco, the United States and the European Union over the status of the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.
