Ceuta shelter death: 17-year-old Moroccan minor dies
A 17-year-old Moroccan minor has died at the La Esperanza shelter in Ceuta. The teenager, who arrived during the migration surge in late July, suffered from severe diabetes. He was discovered unresponsive in his room by a roommate, and medical professionals confirmed his death upon arrival.
Initial medical indications suggest that severe hypoglycemia may have been the cause of death. Local authorities and the Ministry of Health stated that the minor was under medical supervision and had his health documentation in order prior to the incident. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The death occurs amid a significant crisis in Ceuta's child protection system. According to the Ministry of Youth and Childhood, 1,478 minors are currently being housed in the city's centers. Data from the Ministry of the Interior shows that 2,168 migrant minors have been identified since July 30. The influx has also seen a shift in demographics, with approximately 700 girls among the arrivals.
