Ceva and LG partner on ultra-wideband technology for automotive and IoT

Ceva Inc. and LG Electronics have announced a partnership to develop a comprehensive ultra-wideband (UWB) technology platform. The collaboration aims to serve semiconductor and OEM companies designing next-generation automotive, industrial, and consumer products.

The platform integrates Ceva’s Ceva-Waves UWB baseband IP and software with radio-frequency (RF) technology from LG Electronics’ SoC Center. LG’s RF technology supports TSMC’s 22 nm process. The companies stated they have already secured a major U.S. semiconductor company as a customer for this combined offering.

Designed to support the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard, the architecture focuses on improving ranging performance in non-line-of-sight environments and at extended ranges while maintaining low power consumption. Applications for the technology include secure access, asset tracking, indoor navigation, and precise positioning. ABI Research projects that UWB device shipments will grow from 597 million in 2026 to nearly 1.18 billion units by 2030.
