Cevdet Selvi, former CHP Deputy Chairman and union leader, dies

Cevdet Selvi, a prominent Turkish trade unionist and politician, has passed away. Selvi held significant leadership roles, including serving as the General President of the Petrol-İş Union from 1978 to 1987.

In his political career, Selvi served as a Member of Parliament for several terms, representing Eskişehir, Istanbul, and Kocaeli. He also held the position of Deputy Chairman for the Republican People's Party (CHP) during two different periods: in 1999 following the resignation of Deniz Baykal, and again in 2010.

A ceremony to honor Selvi is scheduled to take place at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on Monday, August 31, at 11:00. Following the ceremony, his funeral will be held at the Ankara Gölbaşı Cemetery after the noon prayer.
