Turkey and TRNC announce Yeni Atatürk Stadium and infrastructure projects
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met at Ercan Airport to discuss ongoing infrastructure and economic cooperation projects. A central focus of the visit was the launch of the Yeni Atatürk Stadium and Multi-Purpose Sports Complex project.
The new stadium is designed according to UEFA Category 4 criteria and will feature a hybrid grass pitch, training areas, and a modular structure allowing for capacity increases. To promote sustainability, the facility will include solar energy systems over parking areas and a rainwater harvesting system for irrigation. The complex is intended to be a “living stadium” used for more than just match days, and it is also designed to serve as a gathering area for citizens during potential disasters.
In addition to the sports complex, Yılmaz announced plans for a new student dormitory in Nicosia with a capacity for approximately 2,500 students. An initial 130 million TL has been allocated for the first phase of these projects under a 2026 agreement. The leaders emphasized that these investments aim to strengthen the economic infrastructure and welfare of the Turkish Cypriot community.
