Ceylan Ağaç regains ability to walk after spinal injury

Ceylan Ağaç, an 18-year-old university student, has regained the ability to walk following a severe spinal cord injury. The incident occurred on May 21 in Kars, Turkey, when Ağaç fell from a sixth-floor window after experiencing dizziness caused by a migraine attack.

Following the fall, doctors at Kars Harakani State Hospital informed her that she would likely remain paralyzed, citing a mere 1 percent chance of recovery. In June, she was transferred via helicopter ambulance to the Ankara Etlik City Hospital Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital.

Over a three-month intensive rehabilitation program, Ağaç utilized a variety of advanced treatments, including a robotic walking system, an anti-gravity treadmill, aquatic exercises, and individualized physiotherapy. After starting the process with no movement in her legs, she has successfully progressed from sitting up to walking with support.
