Cezary Gmyz issues apology to Ringier Axel Springer Polska

Journalist Cezary Gmyz has issued a public apology to Ringier Axel Springer Polska (RASP) following a court ruling regarding his previous publications. The apology, which was posted on the social media platform X in the early hours of the morning, was mandated by a court order after RASP sued for defamation.

The legal dispute stemmed from posts made by Gmyz in 2017 and 2018. Specifically, the court found that Gmyz had used terminology referencing the ideology of the Third Reich and disseminated false information suggesting that leadership changes at the newspaper 'Faktu' in 2014 were the result of specific external interventions.

The conflict originated when Gmyz, then a TVP correspondent in Germany, questioned whether the newspaper should remain silent given its ownership. The court ruled in favor of the publisher, noting a lack of substantive justification in Gmyz's articles. As part of the verdict, Gmyz was required to remove the disputed content and issue the formal apology.
