CFDT calls for higher education and research strike in France

The CFDT Éducation Formation Recherche Publiques has called for a large-scale mobilization and strike on September 15, 2026, to demand increased resources for higher education and research in France.

Key demands include additional funding for universities and research bodies, adherence to agreements made during the Research Programming Law negotiations—specifically regarding careers and remuneration—and a hiring plan to address staff shortages. The union is also calling for the cancellation of tuition fee increases for non-EU students.

A demonstration is scheduled to take place in Paris, starting from Jussieu at 12:30 PM and heading toward the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Space. Additional action days are planned for later in September, including a call for resources for student services (CROUS) on September 22 and a general public service remuneration action on September 29.
