CFE restores power to agricultural wells in Chihuahua
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has reconnected power to five agricultural wells in the LeBarón colony of Chihuahua, temporarily pausing a conflict with local producers. The dispute began after the CFE suspended electricity to between five and eight wells in the Galeana, Ascensión, Janos, and Casas Grandes municipalities, reportedly due to unpaid debts.
The power cuts led to protests by the LeBarón family, who blocked vehicles belonging to the CFE and the National Guard. There were also reports of a blockade on the Sueco-Janos highway. Adrián LeBarón emphasized the severity of the situation on social media, stating that electricity is essential for operating the wells and sustaining the local agricultural economy.
While the CFE had previously indicated that service would only be restored once formal payment agreements were signed, the recent reconnection follows ongoing dialogue regarding the outstanding debts.
