CFOs navigate new challenges from AI and emerging technologies
Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) are facing new challenges in decision-making and capital allocation due to the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and blockchain technology.
Melissa Howatson, CFO of Vena Solutions, noted that while AI can accelerate decision-making, the sheer volume of available data can lead to paralysis. She suggests that finance leaders must focus on identifying meaningful signals rather than getting lost in endless analysis, noting that having 80% of the data is often sufficient for strategic decisions.
In the realm of cybersecurity, emerging technologies are forcing a repricing of enterprise budgets. AI is altering the economics of human-centered detection, quantum computing threatens current cryptographic standards, and digital finance is blurring the lines between security and financial infrastructure. Rather than simply adding new tools, CFOs must now determine which existing security expenditures have become redundant or inadequate in light of these technological shifts.
