CFR Cluj enters insolvency amid massive debt and shareholder funding halt

Romanian football club CFR Cluj has entered insolvency for the second time in its history due to significant debts. While owner Ioan Varga stated that urgent debts amount to 15 million euros, the total liabilities, including those currently being rescheduled, exceed 30 million euros.

Shareholder Ștefan Gadola announced he has ceased financing the club for approximately six weeks. Gadola stated his decision follows an investigation by the Economic Police, which named him a suspect in a tax evasion case related to the club's unpaid obligations to the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF). Gadola reported that his properties have been seized as a result of the investigation.

Former coach Andrea Mandorlini confirmed he is among the creditors and intends to file a claim to recover unpaid sums owed to him by the club. Ioan Varga is reportedly negotiating the club's survival with a group of German-Swiss investors.
