CFR Cluj faces insolvency and transfer ban
CFR Cluj is currently undergoing insolvency proceedings following a request admitted by the Cluj Tribunal. The club, which previously faced a similar situation between 2015 and 2017, is now under the management of judicial administrator Răzvan Zăvăleanu.
Zăvăleanu reported that the situation is stabilizing, noting that there are funding sources available to cover current expenses, including salaries and state budget obligations. While a reorganization plan is being developed, a formal list of creditors has not yet been established. The administrator indicated that he maintains daily communication with special administrator Marian Copilu and has had brief discussions with owner Neluțu Varga.
The club is currently facing a transfer ban, preventing them from registering new players, even those who are free agents. However, Zăvăleanu expressed optimism about lifting the ban before the next transfer window, stating they intend to rely on FIFA regulations regarding companies entering insolvency rather than simply making immediate payments.
