CFR Cluj faces new FIFA transfer bans over unpaid debts

CFR Cluj is facing renewed transfer bans from FIFA due to ongoing financial disputes and unpaid obligations. The club currently has four active transfer restrictions registered in September, some lasting for three transfer windows and others remaining in effect until resolved.

These sanctions stem from 16 cases involving unpaid debts totaling over 70,000 euros, alongside disciplinary fines exceeding 29,000 dollars. Notable among the outstanding debts is a payment owed to Fiorentina regarding the training of player Louis Munteanu. Other cases involve various former players, including Mateus Cesare Moura Peloggia, who accounts for a significant portion of the debt.

The situation follows the club's official entry into insolvency after a ruling by the Cluj Tribunal on August 20. While the club previously managed to resolve some restrictions by paying debts earlier in the summer, these new sanctions pose a significant challenge to their strategy for the upcoming winter transfer window. Club representatives have suggested that the restrictions might be lifted by applying FIFA regulations regarding insolvent entities rather than through direct payments.
