CFR Marfă employees face four-month salary arrears

Approximately 1,550 employees of the Romanian freight railway company, CFR Marfă, have not received their salaries for four months, according to the National Railway Federation for Commercial Wagon Movement (FNFMCV).

The federation, led by Grigore Mare, has described the situation as a “social emergency” that deeply affects families unable to cover essential costs such as bills, medications, and childcare. Union representatives are calling for immediate intervention from the new Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ștefan Ovidiu Popa, to establish a legal and financial mechanism for paying the arrears.

In addition to the unpaid wages, the FNFMCV warned that the lack of funding threatens the entire railway system. Without budget rectifications to cover infrastructure maintenance, repairs, and energy costs, there is a real risk of reduced or even stopped train traffic. The union is also seeking the unblocking of administrative procedures regarding collective dismissals and the granting of due compensations.
