CFTC submits crypto asset regulation proposal to White House
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has submitted its ‘Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets’ proposal to the White House for review. This move aims to provide greater regulatory clarity for the digital asset sector in the United States.
The CFTC emphasized that establishing supervisory rules for crypto-related derivatives and markets does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation to invest in specific assets like Bitcoin or Ether. The agency’s focus remains on regulating market conduct and intermediaries rather than the merits of individual tokens.
Additionally, the agency has updated guidelines regarding the use of blockchain technology for record-keeping and the investment of client funds in tokenized forms. To foster innovation, the CFTC also announced the ‘Frontier Forum Series,’ a series of public roundtables intended to bring together public and private sector participants to discuss emerging financial technologies.
