CFTC to discuss crypto regulation at inaugural advisory committee meeting
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will hold the inaugural meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee (IAC) on August 20. A primary focus of the meeting is the evolution of cryptocurrency regulation, specifically addressing the challenges of establishing a durable federal digital asset market structure while the CLARITY Act remains stalled in the Senate.
As comprehensive legislation faces uncertainty, both the CFTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have signaled intentions to provide regulatory guidance. The SEC is reportedly considering new rules for crypto investment contracts and may introduce an innovation exemption framework to facilitate 24/7 on-chain trading of tokenized stocks.
In addition to digital assets, the IAC meeting will address the impact of artificial intelligence on derivatives markets and the rise of agentic finance. The agenda also includes discussions on prediction markets, amid ongoing regulatory scrutiny from federal and state authorities regarding platforms such as Polymarket and Kalshi.
