CG Semi launches commercial chip packaging at Sanand OSAT plant in Gujarat

CG Semi Private Limited, a joint venture of CG Power, Renesas Electronics and Stars Microelectronics, began commercial production at its G1 Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The plant, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, can produce up to 300 million chips a year and is part of a ¥7,500‑crore (about ₹7,600 crore) investment to build two OSAT facilities in the region.

The Sanand facility will assemble and test legacy packages such as QFN and QFP as well as advanced FC‑BGA and FC‑CSP chips for automotive, electronics, 5G, power and industrial applications. It currently employs over 300 workers and is expected to create roughly 5,000 direct and indirect jobs in the next five years. The launch supports India’s broader semiconductor mission, aiming for 500 million chips annually and positioning Sanand as a growing chip‑packaging hub alongside other projects by Micron and Kaynes Semicon.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the achievement as a milestone in India’s push to build a full electronics value chain, noting the country’s rise to the world’s second‑largest mobile manufacturer and exporter, and reaffirming the goal of making India a global semiconductor hub.
