CGCOF promotes responsible use of dietary supplements
The General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges (CGCOF), through its National Food Office and in collaboration with Laboratorios Cinfa, is launching several initiatives this year to promote the responsible use of dietary supplements.
The program aims to provide high-quality, evidence-based information to both pharmacists and the general public. As more individuals turn to supplements to manage health or nutritional deficiencies, the initiative emphasizes the need for professional technical advice in community pharmacies.
Carmen del Campo, National Food Officer, noted that while supplements are not medicines, they possess health claims and dosages that determine efficacy. She warned that they are not harmless, as they can cause interactions or incompatibilities. Del Campo also highlighted the disparity in scientific evidence, noting that while some products have decades of solid research, others rely solely on information seen on social media.
