CGIE Presidency Committee to meet in Rome regarding overseas voting and reforms
The Presidency Committee of the General Council of Italians Abroad (CGIE) will meet at the Farnesina in Rome from September 28 to 30. The meeting involves institutional discussions with the Italian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
A primary focus of the agenda is the upcoming Comites renewal elections scheduled for December 4. The CGIE will analyze the electoral machinery to ensure maximum participation in both active and passive voting rights. Additionally, the committee will address the reform of the electoral law affecting the Overseas Constituency, following recommendations submitted to Parliament in July.
Other key topics include citizenship laws, the digitalization of consular services, and the promotion of Italian language and culture. The committee also intends to discuss the protection of Italian citizens in conflict zones, areas affected by natural disasters, and within prison systems.
