CGIL criticizes Italian government over renewable energy land use

The CGIL trade union has criticized the Italian national government for unilaterally imposing renewable energy plants without proper territorial planning. The union argues that the Ministry of the Environment is bypassing the opinions of local authorities and the Puglia region to authorize massive interventions that consume highly productive agricultural land.

According to the union, the transition to renewable energy is being handled in a way that transforms agricultural soil into infrastructural soil through the installation of fences, poles, electrical cabins, and concrete areas that impermeabilize the ground. CGIL suggests that instead of seizing new land, the government should prioritize using existing structures such as stables, warehouses, and already paved surfaces to protect the country's agricultural vocation.
