CGIL elects three new members to national secretariat

The CGIL general assembly in Rome has elected three new members to its national confederate secretariat: Stefania Filetti, Michele De Palma, and Serena Sorrentino. The appointments, proposed by General Secretary Maurizio Landini, aim to balance gender representation and diversify expertise within the union.

Stefania Filetti, who previously served as the general secretary of CGIL Varese, began her career as a worker at the Alfa Romeo plant in Arese. Her trajectory includes roles as a Fiom delegate and official in Milan before moving into provincial leadership. Michele De Palma represents the metalworkers' union Fiom, while Serena Sorrentino, former leader of Fp-Cgil, returns to the secretariat after working on the union’s fundamental program commission.

These leadership changes are viewed as significant precursors to the 2027 CGIL congress, where the successor to Maurizio Landini will be chosen. The new secretariat structure maintains an equal balance of five men and five women.
