CGIL to celebrate 120th anniversary in Milan

The Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) will celebrate its 120th anniversary in Milan on September 29 and 30. The celebrations, themed ‘The person at the center’, aim to address the future of work, including challenges such as artificial intelligence, technological shifts, and the energy transition.

The first day of events will take place at Spazio Rubattino, featuring discussions on building a peace-based economy. The second day will be held at Teatro alla Scala and is expected to include the presence of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, alongside various artists performing to commemorate the union's history and achievements.

In preparation for the anniversary, a commemorative stamp has been unveiled at the union's national headquarters. Part of the ‘Social Values’ series, the stamp features a photograph from the original 1906 founding congress in Milan. The unveiling involved representatives from Poste Italiane, the State Mint and Polygraphic Institute, and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
