CGN commissions 2 GW offshore wind project in Guangdong

China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) has fully commissioned the 2 GW Yangjiang Fanshi offshore wind project in Guangdong. Located in the South China Sea south of Nanpeng Island, the project extends up to 81 km offshore in water depths of 53 metres.

The facility consists of two 1 GW wind farms, Fanshi 1 and Fanshi 2, utilizing 131 turbines. Notably, 33 of these units are rated at 18 MW with a 292-metre rotor diameter. The project includes China’s first 500 kV intermediate reactive power compensation station designed for an offshore wind farm.

At full capacity, the project is expected to generate more than 6.6 TWh of electricity annually, potentially offsetting approximately 5.1 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year. This commissioning brings the region’s total offshore wind capacity to over 8 GW.
