CGT leader Sophie Binet mobilizes for social and climate issues

Sophie Binet, General Secretary of the CGT, is launching a series of social initiatives to intensify public debate. Key upcoming actions include a demonstration for public services on September 29, a push for comprehensive legislation against violence toward women on September 7, and participation in a climate march on September 26.

The union has criticized the government's handling of recent extreme heatwaves and wildfires, attributing the high death toll and insufficient civil security resources to climate inaction and austerity measures. Binet argued that the prioritization of corporate profits over worker health has left public services, such as firefighting and healthcare, underfunded and ill-equipped to handle environmental crises.

In the context of the upcoming 2027 presidential election, the CGT aims to make social issues a central priority. Through platforms like the Social Forum at the Fête de l'Humanité, the union seeks to organize workers and counter neoliberal policies.
