CGTP-IN demands removal of unemployment benefits from PSU

The CGTP-IN trade union is demanding that the social unemployment benefit be removed from the scope of the Prestação Social Única (PSU). The union argues that integrating this benefit into the PSU leaves unemployed workers more vulnerable, particularly those who do not qualify for standard unemployment benefits due to insufficient contribution periods or having exhausted their previous benefits.

According to the union, the social unemployment benefit possesses a mixed nature, combining contributory elements—requiring a guarantee period of contributions—with non-contributory elements, such as resource requirements. The CGTP-IN contends that the current framework represents unequal treatment and an unjustified violation of workers' rights, insisting the benefit should be reintegrated into the social protection regime for unemployment of employees.
