Chacao Mayor Gustavo Duque Reports 20 High‑Risk Buildings After June Earthquakes
The municipal government of Chacao, Caracas, inspected roughly half of its 1,200 buildings following the twin earthquakes on June 24. Mayor Gustavo Duque said three buildings collapsed completely and 20 were classified with a red‑risk rating, indicating a high danger of structural failure.
Duque also announced procedures to restore elevator service in residential towers that received a green safety rating. Building owners must obtain a technical assessment from their elevator‑maintenance company and submit the report to the municipal contingency office before elevators can be re‑activated.
