Chachoengsao man arrested for setting ATM on fire

A 27-year-old man, identified as Nattawat, was detained by police in Chachoengsao, Thailand, after intentionally setting an ATM on fire. The incident occurred around midnight on August 22, 2026, in front of the Wisdom Auto Parts factory on Suwinthawong Road.

According to police reports, the suspect traveled from Bangkok via a ride-hailing service to visit a monk at Wat Thawin Silamongkol. Following a heated telephone argument with his pregnant girlfriend, Nattawat claimed he felt challenged to go to jail. He admitted that his initial plan was to rob a gold shop, but he abandoned the idea because the stores were closed.

To commit the arson, the suspect collected trash from a nearby bin, placed it inside the ATM kiosk, and ignited it with a lighter. While a security guard attempted to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, the fire spread quickly, requiring a fire engine from the Wang Takhian municipality to bring the blaze under control.
