Chaco and Santa Cruz provinces report progress in new literacy initiatives

Education officials in Argentina’s Chaco province said the newly adopted "Aprendo Leyendo" literacy program is producing early gains, with students increasing reading speed from about 16 to over 30 words per minute and showing stronger comprehension after just eight weeks of instruction. Minister Sofía Naidenoff emphasized the role of teachers, continuous training and evidence‑based methods, and noted the program’s focus on phonemic awareness and adapting to new technologies.

In Santa Cruz, the provincial education council held its first in‑person "Alfabetización Plena" meeting in Caleta Olivia, bringing together directors, supervisors and teachers. Participants received new pedagogical tools targeting phonological awareness for first‑ through third‑grade classes. Officials praised the event’s enthusiasm and its potential to improve classroom practices across the region.
