Chaco implements digital forensic software to accelerate criminal investigations

The Chaco province in Argentina has adopted the “Espejo Chubut” digital forensic extraction software to enhance criminal investigations. Developed by the Forensic Informatics Department of the Chubut Public Prosecutor's Office, the tool allows law enforcement and prosecutors to securely and immediately extract digital evidence from mobile phones.

The software enables the retrieval of WhatsApp conversations, audio, Instagram and Facebook messages, and images without altering the original content of the device. A key advantage of this technology is that it allows investigators to obtain critical data from phones provided by victims or witnesses without needing to seize the physical devices, thereby speeding up preliminary evidence gathering in cases involving violence, fraud, and other crimes.

Security Minister Hugo Matkovich presented the tool alongside Chaco Attorney General Jorge Canteros and Chubut Attorney General Jorge Miquelarena. With this implementation, Chaco joins several other Argentine jurisdictions already utilizing the system, including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, and Santa Fe.
