Chaco Police Chief admits to excessive force in Villa Ángela assault
The Chief of the Chaco Police, Fernando Romero, admitted to an “excess in the use of force” during a procedure in Villa Ángela. The incident, involving three non-commissioned officers who violently assaulted a man, gained widespread attention after video footage of the assault went viral on social media.
Following the public outcry, the officers involved were suspended with salary retention. Authorities noted that the force acted officially due to public pressure, as no formal complaint had been filed by the victim.
This event follows a series of reported irregularities within the Chaco Police force since Governor Leandro Zdero took office in December 2023. Reported incidents include assaults on persons with disabilities, drug-related misconduct, extortion, and various instances of internal violence and instability.
