Chaco students develop thermal monitoring system for animals
Students from the E. E. T. Nº 24 ‘Simón de Iriondo’ technical school in Resistencia, Chaco, have developed BIONEA ORGANIKS, a technological prototype designed for thermal biomonitoring. The project was created by students Juan Federico Alfonsi, María Belén Centurión, and Marcos Ortiz, under the guidance of Professor Cristian Sosa.
The system is a modular thermal monitoring tool intended for researchers studying ectothermic animals. It consists of independent units equipped with K-type thermocouples, ESP32 microcontrollers, and MicroSD cards for local data storage. The devices are managed through a centralized web platform that allows for remote monitoring and cloud-based data storage, enabling researchers to configure parameters such as measurement intervals and animal data via computer or smartphone.
The project was developed in response to needs identified by researchers from IIGHI-CONICET/FaCENA-UNNE and included participation from the Institute of Basic Sciences at the National University of San Juan. It is part of the ‘Escuela 2030’ institutional reorganization project, which aims to link technical education with scientific and productive development.
