Chad accelerates tobacco traceability and tax measures

The Chadian government is accelerating the implementation of a tobacco product traceability system and seeking to increase taxes on tobacco to combat public health issues. A high-level meeting was held at the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention, led by Minister Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderahim, to discuss these measures.

The initiative aims to strengthen control over tobacco products, improve traceability, and mobilize more resources to sustainably fund prevention and treatment efforts. Discussions also addressed challenges related to the consumption of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and falsified products, as well as the marketing strategies used by tobacco industry firms.

Representatives from Kurz, a company specializing in traceability solutions, participated in the meeting to discuss implementation according to established roadmaps. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has expressed its support for the initiative to protect the population from the harmful effects of tobacco.
