Chad and Burkina Faso announce postal service transformations
On World Post Day, observed on October 9, nations including Chad and Burkina Faso are emphasizing the evolution of postal services from traditional mail delivery to multifaceted service hubs.
In Chad, Minister of Telecommunications, Digital Economy and Digitalization Haliki Choua Mahamat announced a profound transformation for the Société tchadienne des postes et de l’épargne (STPE). Acknowledging past difficulties due to digital shifts, the government aims to turn post offices into modern “one-stop shops.” The goal is to leverage the postal network to promote financial inclusion, digital transformation, and economic development, particularly in underserved urban and rural areas.
Similarly, in Burkina Faso, the postal network is being positioned as a lever for socio-economic development. Under the Universal Postal Union theme, “One postal network, infinite possibilities,” Burkina Faso is working to modernize its services to bridge the gap between citizens and digital services, utilizing proximity networks to facilitate the exchange of goods, information, and opportunities.
