Chad and Djibouti implement disaster prevention and resilience measures
In Chad, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGPC) is prioritizing household resilience to mitigate the impact of natural disasters such as floods and droughts. During a conference in N’Djamena marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, Director General Zénabé Mahamat Adoum emphasized that prevention must begin within families and communities to create a culture of preparedness.
In Djibouti, the Djibouti Red Crescent has launched an early action protocol to protect vulnerable populations from flooding risks, exacerbated by climate change and El Niño. The initiative includes distributing roofing materials to households, clearing drainage systems, and conducting community awareness sessions on sanitation and hygiene to prepare for heavy rainfall.
