Chad Gable reveals origin of WWE El Grande Americano character
WWE wrestler Chad Gable has revealed that the ‘El Grande Americano’ character was his own concept intended to elevate a storyline involving luchadors. Gable explained that he proposed donning the mask to add depth to his existing program, though he could not have predicted the character's eventual trajectory.
Following the character's debut in March 2025, Gable suffered a significant shoulder injury requiring surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and bicep tendon. During his recovery, Ludwig Kaiser took over the El Grande Americano persona. This development led to a rivalry between the two performers upon Gable's return at the 2026 Royal Rumble, a situation Gable described as a circumstantial ‘odyssey’ that he feels worked out well for his career.
