Chad Gilbert New Found Glory pop-punk musician death cancer battle

Chad Gilbert, the founding guitarist and songwriter for the pop-punk band New Found Glory, has died at the age of 45. His death was announced on September 20, 2026, in a joint statement by the band and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli. Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family and friends.

Gilbert had been battling cancer since 2021. His health struggles included a rare tumor on his adrenal gland, which later metastasized to his spine, lungs, and brain. Despite his illness, he remained active in the music community, participating in the band’s latest album, ‘Listen Up!’, and making a notable return to the stage in a motorized wheelchair during a Nashville concert in June 2026.

Born in Coral Springs, Florida, Gilbert was a central figure in the pop-punk movement of the early 2000s. Before New Found Glory, he was the vocalist for the hardcore band Shai Hulud. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, his daughter, Lily, his mother, Jackie, and his brother, Brian.
