Chad hosts regional workshop on universal health insurance implementation

The Caisse nationale d’assurance santé (CNAS) of Chad hosted a workshop in N’Djamena on October 20, 2026, to share experiences regarding the implementation of universal health insurance. The event focused on regional cooperation, specifically assisting the Central African Republic in developing its own health insurance policies.

Delegates from Chad, the Central African Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ghana participated in the exchange of best practices and comparative studies. The goal is to address the institutional, financial, and technical challenges associated with funding and implementing universal coverage.

Sing-yabé Barnabas, Director General of CNAS, highlighted Chad's progress in building a solidary health system. He noted that Chad has moved into an operational phase, utilizing strategies such as participatory governance, resource mobilization, the inclusion of vulnerable populations and the informal sector, and the digitalization of management systems to combat fraud.
